Cottonwood Falls, the county seat of Chase County, holds a population of 955 people. The city was first settled in 1854. It is home to the beautiful Chase County Courthouse, the oldest court house still in use in Kansas. Cottonwood Falls is also home to Chase County Historical Museum and Library. The museum holds artifacts as far back as 1882, including the tragic loss of football coach Knute Rockne.
TWA flight 599 crashed on a cool March morning in 1931, this being the birthplace of the FAA. A memorial now stands in remembrance of the 8 people who lost their lives.
