Hillsboro, a community in Marion County, has a population of about 3,000 people. It was founded in 1879 and has a rich history of Mennonites. It is located a few miles from the Marion County Reservoir which allows for many outdoor activities. Hillsboro has many different kinds of attractions which include the town being a college town and a retirement community. Hillsboro also has a state-wide reputation as a progressive community.
Hillsboro is the home of their public school system, along with Tabor College, a four year Christian liberal arts institution. Along with these two huge education systems for job opportunities, there are many businesses of all kinds and also seven different restaurants, two options for lodging, eleven churches to choose from, and the Hillsboro Community Medical Center.
Hillsboro also has many events that it hosts along with attractions for tourists. It has an annual Hillsboro Arts and Crafts Fair, a nine-hole golf course, The William F. Schaeffler House Museum, the Marion County Fair, Holly Days in December, the Farmer’s Market, the Friesen “Dutch” Mill, Adobe Pioneer House, great German sausage from local shops, and the Hillsboro Folk Festival.
