Newton, a community just north of Wichita, KS, was established in 1871. Newton was named by a group of Santa Fe Railroad stockholders after their hometown of Newton, Massachusetts.  It is the county seat of Harvey County and has a population of 17, 190 people. 

Newton is known for its Sand Creek Station Golf Course.  This golf course was rated 24th in the nation for best municipal golf course to play.  It was also rated as one of the top 10 best public courses to play in 2007 by Golf Magazine.  It is an 18 hole golf course located just 15 minutes from Wichita.

Newton has many other attractions, businesses, and restaurants as well.  It has great public schools that give education to about 3500 students per year and about 400 graduate high school each year.  Newton also has 2 private schools so parents have options as to where to send their children.  There is also St. Mary’s Catholic School, also located in city limits.  Newton also has its own newspaper, “The Newton Kansan”, the Carriage Factory Art Gallery, public library, recreation center, Chisholm Trail Festival, Harvey County Free Fair, Taste of Newton, and the Amtrak passenger train station.

For all those who love social activities and keeping busy, Newton is the place for you.  It is home to 46 churches, 5 retirement communities, 3 golf courses and 1 mini golf course, 2 swimming pools, 2 bowling alleys, the Starlite Skate Center, the Chisholm Trail 8 movie theatre, and 2 fitness centers.
