Potwin, a small community was incorporated in 1885 and the population is 457. Potwin became incorporated because it was a station for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. This drew people into the town and it had mass oil production for many years. That is now shut down, but Circle E & Mann’s ATP feedlots are the major area employer. They also give tours of the feedlots as a tourist attraction. Potwin’s school district is combined with Whitewater’s to form Remington. They have an elementary school, middle school, and high school.
Potwin has many small town activities and businesses as well. They have their own newspaper named “This is Potwin.” There are also auto services, Emprise Bank of Potwin, food and dining, and 15 other businesses in or around the area. They also take great pride in their annual Watermelon Festival. Visit their website and read all about the many activities in this large event. At Christmas time they also have the Christmas tree lighting and caroling. There are activities year round to keep those residents of Potwin excited that they are part of a small town community.
